Natural Orange-Red is light and neutral in daylight and has an orange-red afterglow in the dark after charging. This sets it apart from the classic green-glowing powders without tinting the surface by day.

Properties

  • Material: strontium aluminate doped with europium and dysprosium, with a protective coating – which makes it water-resistant
  • Colour: light and whitish in daylight, orange-red in the dark
  • Afterglow duration: up to 2 hours after a full charge in complete darkness; at its strongest in the first few minutes
  • Particle size: approx. 20–30 µm (1 µm = one thousandth of a millimetre)
  • Charging: with any light source, fastest with UV light or sunlight (a few minutes)
  • Heat-resistant: up to 1,200 °C
  • Classification: not classified as hazardous under CLP – see safety data sheet

How to use the glow powder

The pigment does not dissolve but is stirred into a carrier: epoxy and casting resin, clear varnish, acrylic paint, adhesive, wallpaper paste, wax or silicone. As a starting point we recommend approx. 20% pigment, relative to the carrier; in opaque carriers such as white wall paint rather 30–50%. Test the mix on a small sample first.

  • The more transparent and lighter the carrier, the stronger the glow. Prime dark surfaces in a light colour first.
  • In thin, runny resin the pigment sinks: let the resin thicken slightly, then stir it in.
  • You can also scatter the powder onto tacky surfaces such as adhesive, wax or paste, or apply it in clear varnish with an airbrush.
  • For outdoor use, choose weather-resistant clear varnishes or epoxy.

What's included

40 g glow powder Natural Orange-Red in a resealable poly bag.

Good to know

A true red is technically not possible with glow pigments. For technical reasons, this shade glows considerably more weakly and for a shorter time than green or blue-green. In return, the surface stays light and unobtrusive by day. Afterglow is an aid for orientation and effect, not lighting: it becomes visible in real darkness, but hardly under a street lamp. Colours look different in photos depending on the camera and the charge. The raw pigment is not a toy. When working with larger quantities, avoid dust and contact with skin and eyes.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Natural Orange-Red glow compared with other colours?
Natural Orange-Red glows for up to 2 hours after a full charge in complete darkness. The pigments with a whitish daylight colour and a green or blue afterglow glow the longest and strongest – up to 12 hours. The glow is at its strongest in the first few minutes; after 1–2 hours it turns into a faint glimmer.
Is the powder noticeable by day?
Hardly. In daylight the pigment is light and whitish and barely noticeable in light, clear carriers. The colour only shows when it glows in the dark.
How much glow powder do I need?
As a starting point, approx. 20% relative to the carrier – about 20 g per 100 ml of varnish. In opaque carriers such as white wall paint 30–50%. 40 g is therefore enough for around 200 ml of clear carrier. Test the mix on a small sample first.
What charges the powder and how long does it take?
With any light source. Guide values for a full charge: UV light from 365 nm 2–4 minutes, sunlight 6–9 minutes, fluorescent lamp 20–24 minutes, incandescent bulb approx. 25 minutes. After that it glows at its strongest and gradually fades.
Can I mix different glow powders?
Yes, but not like liquid paint according to colour theory: the grains remain individually visible and no new mixed shade is created. Mixing a weak shade with a little green or blue-green extends the afterglow; on closer inspection the stronger grains then stand out.
