Green is the base shade of all glow pigments and glows longest and most intensely. The powder absorbs light and releases it in the dark as a green glow – without electricity and as often as you like. In daylight it is whitish with a slight green tint and is barely noticeable in light-coloured carriers.

Properties

  • Material: strontium aluminate doped with europium and dysprosium, with a protective coating – making it water-resistant
  • Afterglow duration: up to 12 hours after a full charge in complete darkness; most intense in the first few minutes
  • Particle size: approx. 85 µm – fine enough for brushes and casting resin
  • Charging: with any light source, fastest with UV light or sun (a few minutes)
  • Heat-resistant: the pure pigment withstands up to 1,200 °C
  • Classification: not classified as hazardous under CLP – see safety data sheet

How to use the glow powder

The pigment does not dissolve; it is stirred into a carrier: epoxy and casting resin, clear varnish, acrylic paint, glue, wallpaper paste, wax or silicone. As a starting point we recommend approx. 20% pigment relative to the carrier; in opaque carriers such as white wall paint, rather 30–50%. Test the mixture on a small sample first.

  • The more transparent and lighter the carrier, the stronger the glow. Prime dark surfaces in a light colour first.
  • In thin resin the pigment sinks: let the resin thicken briefly, then stir it in.
  • For outdoor use, use weather-resistant clear varnishes or epoxy.

What's included

40 g or 100 g glow powder green in a resealable bag.

Good to know

Afterglow is an aid for orientation and effects, not a light source: it becomes visible in real darkness and barely under a street lamp. The raw pigment is not a toy. Avoid dust and contact with skin and eyes when processing larger quantities.

Frequently asked questions

How much glow powder do I need?
As a starting point, approx. 20% relative to the carrier – so about 20 g for 100 ml of varnish. In opaque carriers such as white wall paint, 30–50%. More pigment glows more intensely, but above about 30% in clear carriers the gain is small. 40 g is therefore enough for around 200 ml, 100 g for around 500 ml, of clear carrier.
What charges the powder and how long does it take?
With any light source. Guide values for a full charge: UV light from 365 nm 2–4 minutes, sun 6–9 minutes, fluorescent lamp 20–24 minutes, incandescent bulb about 25 minutes. After that it glows most intensely and gradually becomes weaker.
How long does green glow compared with other colours?
Green is the base shade and glows longest and most intensely – for up to 12 hours after a full charge in complete darkness. Tinted shades such as orange, pink or purple glow for a shorter time and more weakly.
Can I mix the powder into dark paints?
You can, but dark and opaque carriers absorb a lot of light. For the most effective result, choose a carrier that is as light and transparent as possible, or prime the surface white first.
Is the glow powder water-resistant?
The pigment itself is water-resistant thanks to its protective coating and does not dissolve. How weatherproof the finished object is depends on the carrier – outdoors, use a weather-resistant clear varnish or epoxy.
Are the pigments radioactive?
No – like all modern glow pigments. The glow comes solely from stored light.
