Natural Yellow is a light, neutral powder in daylight and glows yellow in the dark after charging. This keeps the surface discreet during the day, showing its colour only in the dark.

Properties

  • Material: strontium aluminate doped with europium and dysprosium, with a protective coating – which makes it water-resistant
  • Colour: light and whitish by day, yellow in the dark
  • Afterglow duration: up to 2 hours after a full charge in complete darkness; at its most intense in the first few minutes
  • Particle size: approx. 20–30 µm (1 µm = one thousandth of a millimetre)
  • Charging: with any light source, fastest with UV light or sunlight (a few minutes)
  • Heat-resistant: up to 1,200 °C
  • Classification: not classified as hazardous under CLP – see safety data sheet

How to use the glow powder

The pigment does not dissolve; it is stirred into a carrier: epoxy and casting resin, clear varnish, acrylic paint, glue, wallpaper paste, wax or silicone. As a starting point we recommend approx. 20% pigment relative to the carrier; in opaque carriers such as white wall paint, rather 30–50%. Test the mixture on a small sample first.

  • The more transparent and lighter the carrier, the stronger the glow. Prime dark surfaces in a light colour first.
  • In thin, runny resin the pigment sinks: let the resin thicken briefly, then stir it in.
  • You can also sprinkle the powder onto adhesive surfaces such as glue, wax or wallpaper paste, or apply it in clear varnish with an airbrush.
  • Outdoors, use weather-resistant clear varnishes or epoxy.

What's included

40 g glow powder Natural Yellow in a resealable poly bag.

Good to know

For technical reasons, this shade glows much more weakly and for a shorter time than green or blue-green. In return, the surface stays light and inconspicuous by day. Afterglow is an aid for orientation and effects, not lighting: it is visible in real darkness, barely under a street lamp. Colours look different in photos depending on the camera and charge. The raw pigment is not a toy. When processing larger quantities, avoid dust and contact with skin and eyes.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Natural Yellow glow compared with other colours?
Natural Yellow glows for up to 2 hours after a full charge in complete darkness. The pigments with a whitish daylight colour and a green or blue afterglow glow the longest and most intensely – up to 12 hours. The glow is at its most intense in the first few minutes and turns into a faint glimmer after 1–2 hours.
Is the powder noticeable by day?
Hardly. In daylight the pigment is light and whitish and is barely noticeable in light, clear carriers. Its colour only shows when it glows in the dark.
How much glow powder do I need?
As a starting point, approx. 20% relative to the carrier – so about 20 g per 100 ml of varnish. In opaque carriers such as white wall paint, 30–50%. 40 g is therefore enough for around 200 ml of clear carrier. Test the mixture on a small sample first.
What charges the powder and how long does it take?
Any light source. Guide values for a full charge: UV light from 365 nm 2–4 minutes, sunlight 6–9 minutes, fluorescent lamp 20–24 minutes, incandescent bulb approx. 25 minutes. It then glows most intensely and then gradually fades.
Can I mix different glow powders?
Yes, but not like liquid paint according to colour theory: the grains remain individually visible and no new mixed shade is created. Mixing a weak shade with some green or blue-green extends the afterglow; on close inspection, the stronger grains then stand out.
