The glow granules consist of crushed synthetic resin with phosphorescent pigment bound into it. They absorb light and release it in the dark as a blue glow – without electricity and as often as you like. In daylight they are an almost neutral whitish colour and barely noticeable; in the dark they glow blue.

Properties

  • Material: crushed synthetic resin with bound-in glow pigment (strontium aluminate doped with europium and dysprosium)
  • Grain size: 4–8 mm
  • Afterglow duration: up to 12 hours after a full charge in complete darkness; strongest in the first few minutes
  • Colour: whitish in daylight, blue in the dark
  • Water: thanks to the resin binding, unaffected by water and solvent-based liquids
  • Temperature: can be processed up to approx. 300 °C

How to use the glow granules

You can scatter the granules loose, glue them on or work them into a clear carrier, such as epoxy and casting resin, clear varnish, glue, wax, silicone or plaster.

  • Loose as decoration: in garden gravel, flowerpots, vases or lanterns.
  • Setting on top: press the grains only lightly into the setting surface of paint, resin or concrete so that they do not sink.
  • Concrete, paving, joints: press the grains into the still-wet surface and grind flush once cured – or embed them in a transparent, walk-on layer of epoxy or exterior varnish.
  • Outdoors: use solvent-based, weatherproof carriers and choose a spot that gets light during the day.
  • The clearer and lighter the carrier, the stronger the glow.

What's included

100 g glow granules blue, grain size 4–8 mm, in a poly bag.

Good to know

Afterglow is an orientation and effect aid, not lighting: it becomes visible in real darkness, but hardly under a street lamp. After 1–2 hours the glow fades into a glimmer. The granules are a material, not a toy.

Frequently asked questions

How long do the blue granules glow?
Up to 12 hours after a full charge in complete darkness. They are strongest in the first few minutes; after 1–2 hours the glow fades into a glimmer that remains visible for a long time to eyes adjusted to the dark.
Can the granules go in water, for example in a vase?
Yes. In the 4 mm grain size, the pigment is bound in synthetic resin and is therefore unaffected by water and solvent-based liquids. The finer 1 mm granules are different: they are not waterproof, dissolve in water over time and lose their glow in the process. In water, the 4 mm granules sink.
Can I work the granules into concrete, paving or joints?
Mixed into the compound they achieve little, because the concrete covers the grains. A better approach: press the granules into the still-wet surface and grind flush once cured. Or, after curing, apply a transparent, walk-on layer of epoxy or exterior varnish and embed the granules in it.
What is the difference from the 1 mm granules?
The 1 mm granules are finer and suitable for stirring into casting resin, varnish or glue. In the 4 mm granules, the pigment is bound in resin: they glow about as brightly as glow powder, are unaffected by water and work well for scattering and as a visible grain.
Is the material radioactive?
No – like all modern glow pigments. The glow comes solely from stored light.
