A clear, UV-stabilised epoxy casting resin system consisting of 1 kg epoxy resin 100 and 0.5 kg hardener S49. It cures slowly: air bubbles have time to rise, and layers of up to 3 cm can be poured in one go. This makes it a suitable carrier for our glow pigments and glow granules.

Properties

  • Contents: 1 kg epoxy resin 100 and 0.5 kg hardener S49 – makes 1.5 kg of casting compound
  • Mixing ratio: 100 : 47 by weight (resin : hardener)
  • Layer thickness: up to 3 cm in one pour
  • Pot life: approx. 12 h 40 min at 20 °C, approx. 2 h 20 min at 30 °C (1,000 g mix, according to the technical data sheet)
  • Curing: at room temperature; fully chemically cured after approx. 14 days at a minimum of 23 °C; post-curing above 40 °C possible
  • Appearance: highly transparent and UV-stabilised
  • Applications: cast and art objects, jewellery, decoration, filling tree trunks, furniture coatings and sealing

How to use the casting resin

  1. Weigh out resin and hardener in a ratio of 100 : 47 by weight – for example 200 g resin and 94 g hardener.
  2. Stir thoroughly and slowly, including the sides and bottom. Details are given in the enclosed instructions.
  3. For glow effects, let the mixed resin thicken slightly so that it becomes a little thicker, then stir in the pigment. As a starting point, approx. 20% pigment relative to the resin; test on a small sample first.
  4. Pour and leave to cure at room temperature. Rising air bubbles can be removed with a heat gun.
  5. Pour objects thicker than 3 cm in several layers.

Tip: Pigments sink in thin, runny resin. If you want an evenly glowing surface, add the pigment to a separate top layer.

Good to know

Resin and hardener carry the following hazard statements. Resin (signal word “Warning”, pictograms GHS07 exclamation mark and GHS09 environment): H315 Causes skin irritation. H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction. H319 Causes serious eye irritation. H411 Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. EUH205 Contains epoxy constituents. May produce an allergic reaction. Hardener (signal word “Danger”, pictograms GHS05 corrosion, GHS07 exclamation mark and GHS09 environment): H302 + H312 Harmful if swallowed or in contact with skin. H318 Causes serious eye damage. H411 Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection and work in a well-ventilated area. In case of eye contact, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes; for the hardener, get medical advice immediately. Dispose of residues and containers in accordance with local regulations. All information is given in the safety data sheets for resin and hardener, which you can download from this page.

Frequently asked questions

How do I mix resin and hardener?
In a ratio of 100 : 47 by weight, for example 200 g resin and 94 g hardener. Weigh with scales and stir thoroughly, including the sides and bottom. The enclosed instructions describe the steps in detail.
How thick can a layer be?
Up to 3 cm in one pour. Pour thicker objects such as river tables in several layers.
How long does the mixed resin remain workable?
The system cures slowly: according to the technical data sheet, the pot life of a 1,000 g mix is approx. 12 h 40 min at 20 °C and approx. 2 h 20 min at 30 °C. Small quantities cure more slowly, large and warm quantities faster. The resin is fully chemically cured after approx. 14 days at a minimum of 23 °C.
How do I get glow pigments evenly into the resin?
Let the mixed resin thicken slightly until it is a little thicker, then stir in approx. 20% pigment and pour. In thin, runny resin the pigments sink – this gives a glowing underside. For a glowing surface, add the pigment to a separate top layer.
What protective measures are necessary?
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection and ventilate well. Avoid skin contact; in case of eye contact, rinse cautiously with water. The full information is given in the safety data sheet.
